World Book Day will soon once again be upon us. As many schools do, we will be celebrating by dressing up as book characters. Our theme this year is “Journeys to Fantastical Lands”. S is going to be a phoenix bird. Here is what we used and how we put together his costume.
We began by sewing feathers to the neckline and cuffs of a plain red top.
The wings were two separate quarter circle pieces of felt which were layered with further pieces of felt to look like feathers. These were sewn on in strips.
I attached elastic arm loops and a button at the top of the red top onto which the wings could be attached with two further loops.
The mask was made from feather shaped pieces of felt and a few red feathers stuck onto an old flight sleep mask.
S was keen to wear it so we had a quick play outside in the finished ensemble!
What will you be dressing up as this year?
