We had the opportunity to dye a plain cloth bag using plant dyes at The Botanic Gardens in Cambridge on Saturday.
The boys used string, pegs and elastic bands to gather and tie sections of fabric.
Once knotted and tied we soaked them in a choice of dyes – onion skins, red cabbage or turmeric. Both boys decided on turmeric.
After an hour or so we removed the bags and they were placed in a plastic bag for us to bring home to unwrap.
Back at home we untied or cut the strings
And hung the bags out to dry.
The patterns looked beautiful.
When fully dry we ironed the bags and put them to good use!
