The skirt began with an elastic waistband, sewn together to approximately fit their waists.
Onto this I attached lengths of tulle as I had done with the ladybird skirt. However the tulle only covered the sides and back in a series of browns,
To make the eyes on the feathers I cut out a series of oval shapes from brown, green, kingfisher blue and navy blue felt. The last three felt colours were sticky backed and so stuck to each other.
I pinned these onto the skirt and then secured with a little stitch on the brown felt.
To compliment the skirt I made a headband from an old flight mask which happened to be a beautiful blue. Again, using the sticky backed felt I joined together white and blue circles with a navy strip to mimic the patterns on a peacock’s face.
I then sewed some black pipe cleaners to the top, above each eye.
The ends of the pipe cleaner were quite sharp where I had cut them to size so I covered them with some more of the navy felt. The right hand side in the picture shows the felt around the pipe cleaner and the left hand side shows the shaped felt, just trimmed with scissors.
And here is the finished suit – I am so excited to give these to the boys! Does anyone know any good books with peacocks in them?
