Miniature Fairy Book Making

June 7, 2018 by zuzuart Leave a Comment

Following the excitement of finding a fairy library in the woods, we woke the next morning to find that the fairies had left us some book making equipment to make our own books!

The boys spent a long time working on their illustrations and text before we made the book itself.

They then carefully folded the paper strips into a concertina before glueing the folded pages together.

For the cover we used some scraps of mount board. The front and back are cut exactly to the size of the pages. The spine is cut to the thickness of the book. Using some book binding tape we cut a piece slightly longer than the book. In the middle of the tape we laid the spine and either side of the spine we laid 4 match sticks. This gives space for the pages to open successfully.

Next to the match sticks we lined up the front and back cover. Once in place the match sticks could be removed.

The ends of the tape were then folded over and the pages of the book were glued onto the front and back covers, holding the book in place. “I’ve made a book!” Exclaimed A – he was so pleased.

We read our books to the fairies!

Now the boys know how to put the books together I will leave out a basket of book making equipment for them to use freely. I wonder what adventures they’ll write about next!
