To celebrate May Day this year we made our own maypole. The boys love the maypole at Hedingham Castle and were keen to think what patterns we could weave.
We used the following items from around the house and garden.
- a curtain pole
- a long screw
- a piece of wood
- drawing pins
The curtain pole was fixed into the rotary washing line base (with a plastic bag around it to make it a bit fatter and therefore more secure).
We drilled a hole in the centre of the piece of wood and attached the ribbons using drawing pins. A staple gun would have worked just as well.
The hole in the wood was much larger than the screw so it could turn freely. The wood and ribbons where then screwed into the top of the curtain pole.
It was so much fun!
