Three years ago we went to see a production of Raymond Brigg’s “Father Christmas” at the Lyric Theatre in London. The boys, then 4 and 2 loved it and spent a happy time replaying what they had seen at home. This year we went back and it was just a magical and exciting as the first time round. Knowing the routine we queued early for the unmarked seats and had front row positions. The action was so close with the reindeer only centimetres away from S’s face, he thought it was great! As they lifted off the ground I felt A jump with excitement and amazement!
Seeing the musician in the roof was also special. In fact, as a viewer, you are torn between watching Father Christmas and watching the musician in the roof supply a whole range of sound effects and tunes.
S particularly liked the trumpet, which is his instrument of choice! The journey home was spent rereading the book and planning how we could create similar music and sound effects for our shadow puppet show!
