We recently created some magic bean pictures at The Botanic Gardens. The children were encouraged to draw a magical plant sprouting up from a bean. A took his time, being very deliberate with each line and colour he chose.
Then I noticed some ‘big black scribbling lines’ going across his picture. I very nearly launched into “why have you scribbled on your picture?” when I stopped myself just as he said “It’s a storm Mummy.” In fact he had a whole story planned which he drew onto the paper, making layers of action and events. As he drew I scribed what he said and it made a beautiful story picture which included rain, a storm, a sunset and fireworks! I am so pleased I stopped myself and let this story unfold, a lesson I will not forget!
