We have some old bricks in our garden which we plan to turn into outside book ornaments.
First we brushed them down to clean them up a bit. Then the boys painted a base colour for the cover on three sides, making sure the smooth side would be the front cover.
Once dry we painted the fourth side and the top white to symbolise the pages. (We left the underside free of paint).
Next we added some further white detail – a label area for the title and some ‘gilding’.
Once completely dry we added the lettering. We each chose our favourite title.
A dressed as a knight, writing the title of a knight book!
We drew on some ruled lines to look like pages.
After applying a coat of varnish we put our book bricks on display in the garden.
I think we may make a whole outside library!
